Medical Students
UCSF Fresno offers medical student opportunities in pediatrics, including:
- Traditional core clerkships in pediatrics for UCSF and UC Merced PRIME third-year medical students
- Elective fourth-year clerkships in pediatrics, which are open to all students.
The residents in our program are actively involved in teaching medical students. These teaching opportunities take place on the general pediatric inpatient service, ambulatory clinic, and during didactics.
The Pediatrics Department offers the following elective rotations:
- 140.03- Outpatient Pediatric: Medical students will work closely with residents and attendings at the Children’s Clinic located at United Health Centers-Wayte.
- 140.31- Inpatient Pediatric: Medical students will work closely with residents and attendings at Community Regional Medical Center. It provides the opportunity to develop and perfect skills in history-taking, physical examination, case write-ups, presentations, and procedures. Supervised problem-oriented learning/teaching environment fosters basic diagnostic and management skills.
- 140.41- Pediatric Neonatology: Medical students will work closely with Neonatologists at Community Regional Medical Center. Students will spend the first week of their rotation on Newborn service, learning how to perform a basic newborn exam. Students will be integral members of the NICU team and will manage neonatal patients. This will include attending deliveries, participating in neonatal resuscitations, admitting newborns to the NICU, writing up H&Ps, writing orders and performing procedures.
- 140.43- Pediatric Medical Genetics: Medical students will work closely with a Geneticist at Community Regional Medical Center. Experience will be gained in medical genetics, including dysmorphology, biomedical genetics and prenatal diagnosis. Rotation will provide general exposure to all these areas and give a basic understanding of methods used to reach specific genetic diagnoses and exact prenatal detection course for future pregnancies.

UCSF Fresno Pediatrics Stipend for Visiting Students 2026
The UCSF Fresno Pediatrics program is excited to offer a Visiting Student Stipend opportunity to individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, those committed to working with underserved populations, or those with a strong interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
UCSF Fresno was established to meet the needs of the San Joaquin Valley by training and retaining physicians to provide care in our region. It is the mission of the UCSF School of Medicine Fresno regional campus to provide innovative and excellent patient care while training the next generation of physicians and advancing patient-centered research while serving our culturally diverse and medically underserved patient population. It is our goal to train physicians to provide culturally sensitive and appropriate care for our diverse populations.
Eligibility: To qualify for this stipend, you must
- Be entering your final year of medical school (graduating 2027
- Planning to pursue a residency in Pediatrics.
- Identify as a student from a Disadvantaged Background**
- Be in good academic standing.

- Complete a core Clerkship in Pediatrics.
- Prior to the start of your rotation, passed Step 1 of the USMLE or Complex
** Family with an annual income below established low-income thresholds AND/OR from a social, cultural, or educational environment such as that found in certain rural or inner-city environments that have demonstrably presented barriers to navigating admissions or access to medical careers.
This stipend supports students by reducing the costs related to clerkship travel, application/tuition fee and housing expenses. Awardees will receive reimbursement for the expenses below upon submission of receipts.

Each student will meet with the Pediatric Medical Student Site Director during their rotation. Each student will be invited to interview for our residency program. All interested persons are encouraged to apply below.
