Hobbies, facts and interests
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, and left shortly after high school to serve as a medic in the Army. I spent time in Louisiana, the Middle East, Hawaii and (very briefly) Korea before moving to Portland. Moving to Fresno will be the first time living in California in almost two decades (whoa)!

Over the last few years, I’ve been trying everything I can to be good at the game of golf (minimal success), and I’m looking forward to exploring some of the courses in the Central Valley and on the central coast. I also love playing basketball and softball, and watching football and futbol.

I’ve also been working on music production, and it’s pretty cool to drive around listening to my own finished songs. Other than that, my family keeps me pretty busy!

Why Fresno?
It was difficult to choose a residency program without meeting everyone in person. That said, my interview with the Fresno leadership and Residents was outstanding, and the conversations I had made me feel like this was the place for me. Of course, the program’s reputation of providing excellent clinical training and the diverse patient population were key, as well. Ultimately, I made my decision based on where I thought I would thrive and be supported when needed. Lastly, Fresno is an easy drive to Los Angeles, and having family within reach was extremely important.

Hobbies, facts and interests
I love anything active, especially if it's outside. Coffee and ice cream are the two things that reliably make me happy. I also enjoy traveling, exploring local food scenes, and playing board games. Mostly, I love spending time with my husband and our crazy families.

Why Fresno?
The clinical training here is outstanding and I trusted without a doubt that I would finish residency prepared for anything. Also, I grew up in Fresno and think it is a truly special place. The people are diverse and hard-working, yet severely underserved. We have real purpose here, and that is something that I think will make the long hours of residency worth it. Fresno is a great place to live – it is affordable, the weather is great (most of the time), we make delicious produce, and the mountains and beach make for easy day trips. Also, shout out to having strong and kind women in leadership!

I enjoy running, hiking (especially in Yosemite and Sequoia), cooking, hanging with family and friends. I am interested in health policy specifically how this intersects with criminal justice reform, substance use, immigration status and access to care.

Fresno offers exceptional clinical training in the community I am lucky to call home. We have the privilege to work in a medically underserved region and support efforts to improve health equity. This program volume, acuity and variety in clinical scenarios prepares residents completely for their future careers. In addition the faculty and residents are amazing!

Having rotated here as a medical student I got a glimpse of the program and the people here and was sold. Excellent training with great people all in a setting that is both affordable and close to family made it an easy choice for me.

Hiking and backpacking rugged wildernesses, exploring new places, old maps, cultural anthropology, ancient history, learning to cook and bake as many things from scratch as I have time for, houseplant babies, oil painting and photography, Alfred Hitchcock films, the scent of white gardenias

Why Fresno?
The residents at UCSF Fresno captured my heart from the first Zoom social. Through hours of isolation and awkward online interviews, something about the UCSF Fresno gatherings felt real. I felt myself breathe deeply, smile big, and laugh. These were people I wanted to be around people that could keep me grounded during the tough years of residency. I wanted to train at a place committed to the uninsured and underserved serving a diverse patient population with a wide catchment area, and I wanted to be somewhere that would prepare me to practice in remote, rural locations from wilderness rescue to conflict zone refugee camps. I found all of this in Fresno: kindred spirits working in the arid Central Valley of California.

Hobbies, facts and interests
I grew up in Northern California and have lived in the SF bay area and the Eastern Sierra but this is my first time residing in the Central Valley. I went to college at Stanford University and majored in biology. After graduating I went with the Peace Corps to the southern African country of Namibia where I taught high school math and science for two years. Returning to California, I did my MD-PhD combined degree at Stanford studying molecular mechanisms underlying cancer and degenerative disease. I love molecular biology, biochemistry, and science communication. I like to spend my free time in the mountains running, climbing, and skiing.

Great training with the smart and friendly folks at UCSF Fresno, learning how to practice in the diverse and under-resourced California Central Valley, and proximity to the best mountain range in the world!

Hobbies, facts and interests
Within medicine I have interests in critical care and addiction med. Outside the hospital I can usually be found in the outdoors. I love to ski, bike and hike. My indoor hobbies include cooking with friends, reading, podcasts and baking way too many cookies.

Why Fresno?
I knew I wanted a program with a high volume ED and diverse clinical training, so Fresno was the perfect environment for me. I was also drawn to the thoughtful curriculum and elective opportunities. On interview day the residents and faculty really seemed like family, which sold me on the program. Plus the proximity to the Sierras doesn’t hurt!

Hobbies, facts and interests
Hiking, camping and backpacking with my husband, training my border collie to do ridiculous tricks, weightlifting, Zumba, cooking, eating (especially Thai food!), curling up on my couch and reading a good historical fiction novel, visiting art museums, and being a regular at my local pub quiz!

Professional interests include health equity and social EM, palliative care, and critical care.

UCSF Fresno had an amazing blend of community/county/academic medicine, diversity in patient population, and commitment for caring for the underserved. I became a physician to care for my community, and UCSF Fresno was the perfect match, with the added bonuses of serving a large Spanish-speaking population and a reputation for amazing clinical training. And finally, Fresno has great restaurants, is a short drive to mountains, lakes, beaches, and has family nearby. I’m so excited to be training here!

Hobbies
I enjoy being outside including biking, running, skiing/snowboarding, rock climbing, paddle boarding, and doing activities with my dog. I also enjoy cooking/baking, plants, perusing the candle aisle, working on my chaco tan, and planning my next trip.

I was drawn by the fact that UCSF Fresno has the resources of an academic center while having a county-like training experience. The large catchment area has a diverse population, sees incredibly high acuity, and has a wide variety of pathology resulting in unbeatable training. Fresno also has unparalleled opportunities to get involved in wilderness medicine work through the Parkmedic program.
