The UCSF Fresno Global EM Education Fellowship is a one-year advanced training program focused on teaching in countries where Emergency Medicine (EM) is a nascent specialty. The fellowship is a collaboration between the UCSF Fresno Department of Emergency Medicine and EM:RAP, and a part of the Access and Innovation in Medical Education (AIME) Collective. The fellow will have an appointment as a clinical instructor at UCSF. The fellow will work in the emergency department in the diverse and robust trauma center of Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, California, while collaborating on projects with some of the world’s leaders in medical education.

Details

The fellow will work closely with the fellowship director, Ryan Ernst, MD, to curate existing educational relationships with global partner institutions. The primary experience will be geared toward delivering high-quality and innovative educational content to physician-level learners, both in-person and virtually, to help develop lectures, curriculum, exam prep, as well as clinical training modules such as SIM and ultrasound.

Our primary partnerships are currently with the IGSS EM Residency in Guatemala City, Guatemala; Aga Khan EM Diploma in Nairobi, Kenya, and Cho Ray EM Diploma in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.  However, we have ongoing collaborations in many parts of the world, and the opportunities pursued will primarily be dictated by the interests and needs of the fellow.

AIME Scholars

In addition to the many unique opportunities available within this fellowship, the fellow will participate in the monthly “AIME Sessions.” A product of a multi-institutional collective, these innovative sessions focus on the science and art of medical education, as well as career development for our colleague physicians around the world. The 2022 AIME scholars are from Peru, Honduras, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines.  Previous scholars hail from Costa Rica, Kenya, Haiti, and Brazil.
