Family and Community Medicine

Training health care leaders and advocates to care for multicultural rural and urban populations

Welcome!

The UCSF Fresno Family Medicine Residency is a dynamic program which has graduated more than 400 residents since its inception in 1970. It is a model for community-based training, balancing service and education needs for a large multi-cultural underserved population.  Our mission is to educate and train a diverse group of high-quality physicians to practice in urban and underserved settings.

We offer a well-balanced curriculum where residents are trained at a wide variety of clinical sites encompassing a breadth of inpatient training as well as obstetric care and ambulatory training in both urban and rural settings. Additionally, our program offers regularly scheduled didactic sessions.

Our department has a strong administrative infrastructure which allows residents and faculty to concentrate on learning and caring for patients. Clinical and administrative personnel are dedicated to assisting with residency scheduling, coordination, research and grants, practice management issues, and providing key quality assurance and utilization feedback to residents.

Graduates of the program are physicians who are confident in their medical knowledge and have patient care skills in all areas of family medicine.  They practice in a variety of rural and urban settings and serve as health care advocates for the populations they serve.

We’re looking for people to join our team who seek an all-inclusive approach to training in family medicine and are prepared to become tomorrow’s health care leaders. We hope you will consider joining us in preparation for your future career. Please contact us if you have any further questions.
