Rotation Highlights

Orientation

All interns will start their residency journey at UCSF-Fresno FCM residency program by starting on “orientation” block.  During this block, they will spend the first week participating in various didactics lead by UCSF-Fresno FCM faculty.  Topics covered during this week include reviewing program requirements needed for successful graduation and introduction to high yield topics such as prenatal care/OB, HIV, behavioral health, sports medicine, harm reduction, gender affirming care, etc.  During weeks 2-4, residents will rotate on our 3 inpatients services (Med D, inpatient Family Medicine service, and FM-OB service).  In addition, they will spend a couple of days and their continuity clinic site.

Community Medicine

A month-long rotation that is scheduled for November or December of intern year that is aimed to provide interns a better understanding of the resources available to serve their community.  In addition, they learn and reflect on how social/economic disparities can effect a patient’s medical care.  Examples of activities interns participate in include resources scavenger hunt, disaster preparedness, and a public health project.

Advocacy and Leadership

All 3rd year residents participate in this 2-week rotation.  During this rotation, residents will be introduced to the role physicians play in advocates and leaders not only for their patients, but for the community they serve.  They will attend various seminars/workshops including a resolution writing workshop, a microaggression workshop, a seminar on how to give TV interviews, and learn about how they can advocate for clinic efficiency.  In addition, all residents will create a public service announcement on a topic of their choice.

Electives

All senior residents participate in electives of their choice.  Some of the more popular electives include endocrinology, infectious disease, outpatient gynecology clinic, sleep medicine, outpatient cardiology, and sports medicine.
