Visiting Student Requirements

Welcome to UCSF Fresno! As you embark on your final year of medical school, we hope that you will take this opportunity to consider UCSF Fresno’s fourth-year elective program. UCSF Fresno invites students who are in good academic standing at an accredited medical school to participate in this exciting program.

 

First Time Student Requirements:

  1. Must attend an LCME-accredited or AOA-accredited medical school
  2. Must be in your 4th and final year of medical school
  3. Must have proof of malpractice coverage. Minimum coverage is $1M per incident/$3M per aggregate. Most of the time,  your homeschool would have completed this section during your eligibility portion in VSLO.

Home School Requirements:

  1. Home school must be part of the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) program. International students please refer to the international requirements here: Please click here for policy information
  2. Must have a current AAMC Affiliation Agreement on file with UCSF Fresno. Click here to check the status of your home schools affiliation agreement: UCSF Fresno Approved List of Affiliated Medical School.

If the agreement is has expired, is set to expire, or your home school is not listed, you may find the required forms below. Please submit it to the proper admin at your home school for review and completion. You may direct any questions to [email protected]

Elective/Rotation Requirements: How to Apply for an Elective at UCSF Fresno
  1. Complete a VSLO application. Apply to desired elective and rotation dates
  2. Receive tentative offer via VSLO from Department of UME
  3. Accept offer and complete required steps listed in the offer
  4. Pay application fee(s)
  5. Complete a UME application (mandatory)
  6. Submit all required onboarding documents
  7. Pay tuition fees (If applicable)
  8. Attend Welcome Orientation
  9. Complete mask-fit requirement via CRMC HR
  10. Complete mandatory CRMC eLearning modules
  11. Begin UCSF Fresno elective
Required Tuition and Application Fees

A fee is charged for the application processing and program tuition. UCSF Fresno charges according to institutional reciprocity (i.e., whether the application is from a student attending a medical school where there are also opportunities for UC students to pursue elective opportunities). In addition, each clinic program accepts applications based on capacity to accommodate visiting student.

Application Fee: (All Visiting Students, non-UCSF): $300.00 per 1 elective

Due: When you accept the VSLO offer. Non-refundable.

Tuition Fee:

Due: 30-days before your rotation start date

4-week Rotations: $800.00 per 1 Rotation

2-week Rotations: $250.00 per 1 Rotation

Cancellation Policy:

Students must notify the appropriate clinical department of any cancellation. Students should also notify the Undergraduate Medical Education Office by phone (559) 499-6523 or email [email protected] to notify of cancelled rotation(s).

  1. Must be a 4th year medical student
    1. Be in good academic standing
    2. Meet UCSF Fresno clinical elective requirement
    3. Successfully pass Step 1 of the USMLE or Complex
