Community Medical Centers maintains a dental service fully approved by the American Dental Association Council on Hospital and Institutional Dental Services at its Ambulatory Care Center. Two programs are conducted: a one-year General Practice Dental Residency and a four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency. Both programs are fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Accreditation.

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) house staff consists of eight residents. During this four-year training program, the oral surgery resident is given increasing responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of oral surgical patients on both an outpatient and inpatient basis. In addition, trainees rotate with respect to:

• Anesthesiology (four months)
• Anesthesiology Peds (one month)
• General Surgery/Trauma (four months)
• Internal Medicine (two months)
• Radiology (two weeks)
• Emergency Medicine (one month)
• Sleep Medicine (two weeks)

Residents are evaluated every six months by OMFS faculty and upon completion of mandatory rotations.

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department holds weekly and/or monthly conferences for journal review, clinical case review, basic sciences and clinical sciences.

Residents are encouraged to undertake clinical research projects during their training.

The outpatient oral and maxillofacial surgery clinic is a modern facility with large inpatient and outpatient case loads. Surgeries include all varieties of major maxillofacial injuries, reconstructive surgery, surgical pathology, orthognathic and dentoalveolar surgery. The OMFS service is largely responsible for the treatment of maxillofacial trauma patients admitted to CRMC. Residents gain supervised exposure in ambulatory general anesthesia.
