Dr. Jailyn Avila is a board-certified emergency physician and a leader in point-of-care ultrasound, clinical education, and faculty development. She has over a decade of experience in academic medicine, serving as an Associate Professor and Ultrasound Director at the University of Kentucky and currently as Co-Ultrasound Fellowship Director at United Health Services Southern California Medical Education Consortium. She is a nationally renowned speaker, and we are honored to host her here at UCSF Fresno.

Learning objectives:
1. Describe the professional and personal challenges faced by transgender physicians in emergency medicine
2. Describe basic transgender healthcare in the setting of the emergency medicine
3. Recognize the significance of transgender rights as a barometer for broader social justice
