Andrew Liman, MD

HS Assistant Clinical Prof.

Dr. Andrew D. Liman is the Section Chief of Hematology/Oncology at VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS), as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco, Fresno. He is board certified in Hematology and Medical Oncology and graduated from University of Indonesia in 1983. He completed his hematology and oncology fellowship training from Hahnemann University and Medical College of Pennsylvania in 2000. Dr. Liman has extensive practice, teaching and research experience at the University of Tennessee Cancer Institute, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and VA Pittsburgh Health Care System. In addition, he was one of the active researchers at the Veteran Research Foundation of Pittsburgh and director of a Hematology/Oncology clinical trial.

Dr. Liman joined VACCHCS in June 2020. He currently serves as PI and Co-PI in several clinical trials at VACCHCS and is a member of Research and Development Committee. His research interests include head and neck, lung, and genitourinary malignancies. Dr. Liman has presented many abstracts and posters at national and international meetings such as ASCO, AVAHO and ESMO, has many publications in peer-reviewed journals, as well as serving as a peer reviewer for several scientific journals. He is also an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Veteran Affairs of Hematology and Oncology.

Dr. Andrew Liman was born in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1960. He attended medical school at the University of Indonesia and graduated in 1983. As a medical student, he was actively involved in teaching in small villages in Java Island about immunization, healthy lifestyle, and several projects in building irrigation and drinking waters. After graduation, he worked in a public health care center for underserved population in Borneo Island (West Kalimantan) for 4 years. He worked as a general practitioner in a mental state hospital overseeing patients from different ethnicity and background. Dr. Liman came to US in 1992. He had gained some experience treating underserved patients with cancer in Northeastern Pennsylvania while he was in residency and fellowship in Hematology and Oncology. He was actively involved in cancer treatment for African American and Hispanic population at University of Tennessee cancer institute (UTCI) and at VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS). He mentored a UCSF Hematology and Oncology fellow about molecular biomarker in lung cancer veterans including minorities that was presented at the National AVAHO meeting. With another UCSF fellow he is in the process of gathering data about Multiple Myeloma in Hispanic population in Central Valley. Dr. Liman is one of the investigators at the Pacific Health Research and Education Institute (PHREI).
