Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with Lourdes DelRosso, MD
Lourdes DelRosso, MD, MS, UCSF Professor, Department of Family Medicine at UCS Fresno, was born in Lima, Peru, where she lived until she moved to Miami, Florida, at the age of 19. There, she pursued a medical career at the University of Miami and then completed her residency in California.. She is proud to be a Latina physician in the San Joaquin Valley.
Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with Antonio Toribio, MD
Antonio Toribio, MD, UCSF Associate Professor, Department of Internal Medicine at UCSF Fresno, was born in Mexico and raised in the San Joaquin Valley. At a young age he knew he wanted to become a doctor and return to practice in the Valley because he wanted to give back to the community and mentor aspiring physicians.

Mackenzie Saephanh is an assistant clinical research coordinator at UCSF Fresno Mobile HeaL. She is lu-Mien and is proud to share her culture and traditions. Mackenzie is applying to master's in public health programs followed by medical school. She hopes to become an oncologist and practice in the San Joaquin Valley.

Endya Hamilton, MD, a second-year resident in the Department of Pediatrics at UCSF Fresno, is proud to be an African American physician. As a pediatrician, she hopes to inspire young girls to pursue a medical career the way she was inspired to do so. In February we celebrate Black History Month by honoring the contributions and perspectives of members of our African American campus community.

Erica Kasper, MD, completed her Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases fellowship at UCSF Fresno and is currently the Associate Program Director of Internal Medicine and Medical Director for Special Services HIV Clinic.

About 5.7% of physicians in the United States identify as Black or African American, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges. Ibironke Adelaja, MD, UCSF Fresno Department of Surgery is proud to be in that percentage and shares why Black representation in the medical field matters. In February, we celebrate Black History Month by honoring the contributions and perspectives of members of our African American campus community.
Kamell Eckroth-Bernard, MD
Kamell Eckroth-Bernard, MD, UCSF Fresno Department of Surgery, was instrumental in the establishment of the Intentional Recruitment Coalition (IRC) to increase diversity in the physician workforce to meet the needs of the patient population and, in doing so, improve health in the Valley. In this video, Dr. Eckroth- Bernard shares his journey to becoming a surgeon and why he's proud to be a Black surgeon in the San Joaquin Valley.

2023 Hispanic Heritage Month- Luis Dehesa, MD
Luis Dehesa, MD is an associate professor in Dermatology at UCSF Fresno. He was born in Cuba and raised in Spain but his wife led him to Fresno where he practices Dermatology and serves a large number of Latino patients. He is proud of his roots and is maintaining his traditions by passing them on to his children.

Luis Dehesa, MD es profesor asociado en la Division de Dermatología en UCSF Fresno. Nació en Cuba y creció en España, pero su ahora esposa lo llevó a Fresno, donde practica Dermatología y atiende a un gran número de pacientes latinos. Está orgulloso de sus raíces y mantiene sus tradiciones transmitiéndolas a sus hijos.

Cecilia Rangel- Garcia, MD is a resident in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF Fresno. She is proud to be a third-generation Latina and to be among the 6% of Latinos in the medical field. She hopes more Latinos are inspired to become physicians.
Hispanic Heritage Month- Marlon Echaverry, MD
Marlon Echaverry, MD is an assistant professor in the department of Family and Community Medicine at UCSF Fresno. Born in Nicaragua, he and his family immigrated to the United States when he was four years old. He grew up in Miami, Florida, and went on to become a physician. Now he wants young Latinos to know they too can become doctors.

Three faculty from UCSF Fresno Department of Surgery experienced different upbringings as first, second and third-generation Chinese Americans. Their different paths led them to UCSF Fresno, where they share a common bond over favorite foods, such as dim sum; and also a commitment to their patients and to improving health care in the San Joaquin Valley.
