The University of California, San Francisco, Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research and Selma High School will host an information meeting regarding the Doctors Academy on Thursday, Nov. 30 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Abraham Lincoln Middle School library (1239 Nelson Blvd.) in Selma. The meeting is open to Selma-area eighth grade students and their parents and guardians.
Participants will learn about the Doctors Academy admission requirements, program expectations, how to apply online and academic and enrichment opportunities available to students. Participants also will hear about the unique partnership with the UCSF School of Medicine and other community partners who work together to prepare students for careers in health and medicine. Current Doctors Academy students and Selma High School staff members will be available to answer questions.
The Doctors Academy program was established in 1999 at Sunnyside High School in Fresno. In 2007, the program was expanded to include programs at Caruthers and Selma high schools. Currently, there are 87 students enrolled in the Doctors Academy at Selma High School.
Eighth grade students interested in applying to the Selma High School program will require an interdistrict transfer approval from their home district and Selma Unified High School District.
