FRESNO - The University of California, San Francisco Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research (UCSF Fresno Latino Center) will hold informational meetings about the Caruthers and Selma Doctors Academy programs:
- Tuesday, November 5, 2013, 6 to 7 pm, Caruthers High School Media Center (2580 W. Tahoe Ave.) in Caruthers
- Wednesday, November 6, 2013, 6 to 7 pm, Abraham Lincoln Middle School Library (1239 Nelson Blvd.) in Selma
The meeting is open to eighth-grade students who are interested in careers in health and medicine and their parents and guardians. Participants will learn about Doctors Academy admissions requirements, program expectations, how to apply and other opportunities available to students. In addition, staff members will share details about the unique partnership with UCSF School of Dentistry and School of Pharmacy and other community partners who offer educational experiences related to careers in health and medicine. Current Doctors Academy students and staff members will be available to answer questions.
The Doctors Academy program was established in 1999 at Sunnyside High School in Fresno. In 2007, the program was expanded to include programs at Caruthers and Selma high schools.
Eighth-grade students interested in applying to any of the Doctors Academy programs and who live outside the district will be required to obtain an inter-district transfer approval.
