UCSF Fresno Doctors Academy Accepting Applications for 2022-2023 School Year

The UCSF Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research (LaCMER) is accepting applications for its Doctors Academy programs at Caruthers and Sunnyside high schools. Applications will be available online beginning Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022. The deadline to apply is Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022. Interested students may get more information and access the online application at https://doctorsacademy.ucsf.edu/ and click on the How to Apply tab.

Informational meetings for students and parents will be held:

  • Monday, Oct. 10, 6 to 7 p.m.,Caruthers High School Media Center, 2580 W. Tahoe Ave, Caruthers, CA 93609 
  • Wednesday, Oct. 19, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sunnyside High School Library, 1019 S. Peach, Fresno, CA 93727
  • Wednesday, Nov. 2, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.,Sunnyside High School Library, 1019 S. Peach, Fresno, CA 93727 

Meetings are open to eighth-grade students who are interested in careers in health and medicine and their parents. Participants will learn about Doctors Academy admissions requirements, program expectations, and how to apply. Staff members will be available to answer questions and provide in-person assistance with the online application.

Eighth-grade students interested in applying to the Caruthers Doctors Academy programs and who live outside the Caruthers Unified School District will be required to obtain an inter-district transfer approval. Applications to the Sunnyside Doctors Academy are only open to eighth-grade students within the Fresno Unified School District and must submit a transfer form to the Fresno Unified School District Transfer Office by the 12/1/2022 deadline. About UCSF Fresno Doctors Academy Programs: The UCSF Fresno Doctors Academy Program was established in 1999 at Sunnyside High School in Fresno. In 2007, the program was expanded to include a rural site program at Caruthers High School. Over 1,000 students have completed the full UCSF Fresno Doctors Academy Program since the first cohort graduated in 2003. One hundred percent of students in the program who have applied have received admission to four-year colleges and universities.
