UC PRESIDENT AND OTHER UC LEADERS MEET WITH UCSF FRESNO DOCTORS ACADEMY STUDENTS, MEDICAL RESIDENTS AND MEDICAL STUDENTS

WHO: UC President Janet Napolitano, UCSF Chancellor Sam Hawgood, UC Associate Vice President for Health Sciences and Services Cathryn Nation, UCSF Fresno Associate Dean Joan Voris, UCSF Fresno Chief of Medicine Michael W. Peterson, UC Merced Chancellor Dorothy Leland and UC Merced Provost Thomas W. Peterson

WHAT: UC President Napolitano and other UC leaders will meet at UCSF Fresno to discuss health issues in the San Joaquin Valley and how the University of California is addressing needs and contributing to health and health care in the region.

Following their meeting, the president, chancellors and other UC leaders will meet with a group of high school students from the UCSF Fresno Doctors Academy programs at Caruthers, Selma and Sunnyside high schools. The students will share their educational goals and plans to pursue careers in health and medicine.

Afterward, the students and UC leaders will hear from physicians-in-training, including medical students in the UC Merced San Joaquin Valley Program in Medical Education and UCSF Fresno medical residents.

After the conversations, media will be able to ask UC leaders questions about UC’s contributions to health and health care in the San Joaquin Valley.
