WHO:
Congressman Jim Costa (D-CA16), a lifelong resident of the San Joaquin Valley and advocate for the region and for UCSF Fresno will present a Congressional Resolution to UCSF Fresno Interim Associate Dean Michael Peterson, MD, in honor of the medical education program’s 40th anniversary.
WHAT:
The Congressional Resolution will recognize UCSF Fresno’s contributions to improving health and healthcare in the Valley. Since it was established in 1975 as a clinical campus of UCSF, UCSF Fresno has grown significantly to become the San Joaquin Valley’s largest physician training program. Up to 40 percent of the physicians trained at UCSF Fresno stay in the San Joaquin Valley to provide medical care for community members.
“It is with great pride that I honor the service of UCSF Fresno as they celebrate 40 years of dedicated service to the San Joaquin Valley. The establishment of UCSF Fresno, the Valley’s largest physician training program, has improved the quality of life for Valley residents by providing access to doctors in a region where a shortage of physicians and special needs in rural health services have long been a problem,” said Rep. Costa. “UCSF is improving the quality of healthcare for our Valley and our nation. I look forward to their next 40 years!”
