The geriatrics symposium is especially timely given Gov. Gavin Newsom’s call for a “Master Plan on Aging” in his State of the State address on Feb. 12. California’s senior population will increase by four million in the coming decade and will double in 25 years. Gov. Newsom also established an Alzheimer’s Prevention and Preparedness Task Force. Between 2010 and 2060, Fresno County alone will have a 170 percent increase in population older than age 60.
