UCSF Fresno Encourages First-Generation Students

Many faculty at UCSF Fresno are the first in their families to earn four-year degrees. They know that encouragement and support are vital to the success of first-generation students.

As students head off to campuses this fall, many are the first in their families to pursue four-year degrees. Nearly half of all UC undergraduate students are first-generation. About 900 faculty across all 10 UC campuses and at UCSF Fresno, who also are the first generation to graduate from college have volunteered to be part of a coordinated UC systemwide effort aimed at providing support and encouragement to first-generation students.

In addition to faculty, many medical students, residents and fellows at UCSF Fresno are first-gen.

UCSF Fresno encourages all learners to pursue their academic goals. We especially want to encourage students at our partner campuses such as Fresno State and UC Merced and all trainees at UCSF Fresno. #FirstGenUCSFFresno
