Hospice and Palliative Medicine Applicants

The UCSF Fresno Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship program is a one-year ACGME-accredited program. The program matches two PGY-4 fellows each year.

The UCSF Fresno Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). All applications are handled through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges.

To be considered for fellowship training, please submit the following documents:

  • Copy of the Universal Application (AAMC)
  • Personal Statement
  • Three letters of recommendation (including one from your Program Director)
  • Current CV that includes all publications
  • USMLE Transcript
Minimum Employment Requirements

To be eligible for a residency/fellowship appointment contract with the UCSF Fresno, all current or expected trainees must possess one of the following for the duration of their anticipated years of training:

be a United States citizen 

be in possession of a valid United States Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) 

be in possession of a valid United States Employment Authorization Document (EAD) Work Permit 

be in possession of a valid ECFMG-sponsored J-1 visa*

UCSF Fresno does not generally sponsor H-1B visas. Please contact individual programs regarding their policy on H-1B visa sponsorship.

*UCSF Fresno does not accept dental applications from graduates of non-U.S. or Canadian dental schools. Dental applicants are not eligible for ECFMG sponsored J-1s.

Trainees in programs rotating to the VACCHCS must follow Federal Law and register for Selective Service. Trainees may not be eligible for employment in programs that rotate to the VACCHCS if they have not registered for Selective Service or obtained a Status Information Letter from Selective Service indicating they were either not required to register with Selective Service or are exempt from the registration requirement. The determination to train at a VA facility is at the discretion of the VA, additional information regarding Selective Service can be found at: www.sss.gov/. Employment is contingent upon trainees clearing a UCSF Employment Misconduct Disclosure review where you will be required to disclose any final administrative or judicial decisions within the last seven years determining that you committed any misconduct and provide information related to investigations and appeals. Accordingly, UCSF may revoke its offer or appointment, or amend the conditions thereof, based on the screening results and/or signed attestation, including any required written explanation of any "yes" response on the attestation statement. Background Checks

UCSF Fresno is committed to selecting and hiring the most capable house staff in order to pursue its strategic goals of excellence in teaching, learning, research, scholarship, creative activity, and service to the community.   All offers of appointment to UCSF Fresno sponsored GME programs are specifically conditioned upon successful completion of a background check. Background checks will be carried out by one or more agencies on behalf of the UCSF Fresno GME Office. An additional independent background check may be conducted by an affiliated training site as a condition of rotating/onboarding at that facility.

Additional Information for International Medical Graduates

Graduates from medical schools outside the United States (including Canada) must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) prior to enrollment into an ACGME-accredited program.
