Who We Are
Caring for the Caregiver (C4C) is a grant-funded peer support program made up of people just like you—UCSF Fresno residents and UCSF Fresno faculty who know how challenging residency, and let’s be honest, a career in medicine can be. We are here to hear you out and remind each other that we are not alone in the experience of frustration, sadness, fatigue, anger, and every other emotion you might imagine. It is not easy to be a physician and to come into contact with human suffering on a daily basis. We care about the job we do and we know that the stakes are high. Add to that the fact we are human and fallible, and it is easy to see why second victim syndrome and burnout are so incredibly prevalent. But data shows we can fight that trend by reaching out and sharing our experience with others. As your peer supporters, it is important to us that we create a culture that uplifts and affirms each other. We want to be there for each other and help debrief the emotions of our working life. When you reach out to us, you can expect to speak with a trained resident or faculty member who will listen to and help you process in the aftermath of a challenging clinical experience as well as act as a resource navigator that can connect you to other valuable programs at UCSF Fresno. Ultimately, we want you to know you are not alone. We would like to walk beside and with you through this challenging adventure that is residency. Please use the instructions below to reach out. We hope to hear from you soon.
