The UCSF Fresno Doctors Academy is accepting applications for programs at Caruthers and Sunnyside high schools. The Doctors Academy is a school-within-a-school academic program for students interested in careers in health and medicine. Interested students can obtain information and apply online by selecting the How to Apply tab at https://doctorsacademy.ucsf.edu/
The application filing period begins Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023. The deadline to apply is Friday, Dec. 1, 2023.
Informational Meetings will be held for interested students and parents:
- Monday, Oct. 9, 6 to 7 p.m., Caruthers High School Media Center, 2580 W. Tahoe Ave, Caruthers, CA 93609
- Tuesday, Oct. 10, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sunnyside High School Library, 1019 S. Peach Ave., Fresno, CA 93727
Meetings are open to eighth-grade students who are interested in careers in health and medicine and their parents. Participants will learn about the Doctors Academy admissions requirements, program expectations, and how to apply. Staff members will be available to answer questions and provide in-person assistance with the online application. Spanish interpretation will be available for parents/guardians. Eighth-grade students interested in applying to the Caruthers Doctors Academy programs and who live outside the Caruthers Unified School District will be required to obtain an inter-district transfer approval.
Applications to the Sunnyside Doctors Academy are only open to eighth-grade students within the Fresno Unified School District and must submit a transfer form to the Fresno Unified School District Transfer Office by the Dec. 1, 2023, deadline. Background:
The UCSF Fresno Doctors Academy program was established in 1999 at Sunnyside High School in Fresno. In 2007, the program was expanded to include a rural site at Caruthers High School. Over 1,000 students have completed the full UCSF Fresno Doctors Academy program since the first cohort graduated in 2003 and 100% of students in the program who have applied have received admission to four-year colleges and universities.
