FRESNO –Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women in the U.S. About one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime.
UCSF Fresno and Susan G. Komen® Northern and Central California will hold a breast health education, screening and mammogram event on Saturday, May 19, at the UCSF Fresno Center for Medical Education and Research, 155 N. Fresno St. in downtown Fresno.
Media are invited to cover the event in between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Please call (559) 313-6539 if you plan to cover the event.
Ibironke Adelaja, MD, FACS, an assistant clinical professor at UCSF Fresno envisioned the event and brought numerous partners together to make it possible. Dr. Adelaja is a breast surgeon, who specializes in caring for women and men with benign and malignant breast diseases.
“Breast cancer incidence and deaths vary greatly by ethnicity, socio-economic status and even geographical location,” said Adelaja. “Early detection and treatment are extremely important. Simply put, they save lives and that’s the motivation for this event.”
