David R. Jeffcoach, MD, FACS, FCS (ECSA), is an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, Fresno regional campus. He also serves as Assistant Trauma Medical Director at Community Regional Medical Center (CRMC).
Dr. Jeffcoach received his medical degree from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. He completed a general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery at UCSF Fresno. Dr. Jeffcoach is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, with added qualifications in Surgical Critical Care.
From 2019 to 2023, Dr. Jeffcoach served as Chair of Surgery at Soddo Christian Hospital in Ethiopia, where he led numerous initiatives to expand surgical capacity and improve patient care. During his tenure, he helped grow the surgical department, doubled the number of operating rooms, established the hospital's laparoscopic surgery program, and led multidisciplinary efforts to improve operating room efficiency. He also served as Program Director and later Assistant Program Director for the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons' General Surgery Residency Program at Soddo Christian Hospital.
Dr. Jeffcoach has longstanding interests in trauma surgery, acute care surgery, surgical critical care, and global surgery. His research and educational efforts focus on trauma outcomes, resuscitation, laparoscopic training, and expanding access to safe surgical care in resource-limited settings. He continues to provide surgical education throughout sub-Saharan Africa and serves as co-lead of the multinational ALL-SAFE surgical education research collaborative, which develops and delivers laparoscopic training programs for surgeons in low-resource countries.
Dr. Jeffcoach is a Fellow the American College of Surgeons and the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa.
