Amir Fathi, MD, is a board-certified surgeon specializing in hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, Fresno regional campus.
Dr. Fathi earned his combined bachelor's and medical degree from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in Tabriz, Iran. He completed a research clerkship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Spine Division, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, followed by a postdoctoral research scholarship at Case Western Reserve University prior to his general surgery residency. He completed his general surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University and subsequently completed a fellowship in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Dr. Fathi has been a faculty member in the Department of Surgery since 2015. As a teaching faculty member, he educates, supervises, and mentors medical students and residents in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. He also holds an adjunct professorship in the Faculty of Medicine at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Fathi's clinical interests include foregut malignancies and tumors of the liver, biliary tract, and pancreas. He also specializes in complex abdominal wall reconstruction and minimally invasive hernia surgery.
In addition to his educational responsibilities, Dr. Fathi serves as Chair of the Community Cancer Institute's Cancer Quality Council and Chief Academic Officer for Community Health System. He is also the surgeon champion for the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) and the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program at Community Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Fathi is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
