Program Director’s message

Welcome to the UCSF Fresno Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship.

Thank you for your interest in our fellowship program. We are committed to training compassionate, skilled, and innovative sports medicine physicians who excel in clinical care, education, and leadership while serving diverse communities. Our one-year ACGME-accredited fellowship provides comprehensive, hands-on training in all aspects of primary care sports medicine. Fellows develop expertise in the evaluation and management of musculoskeletal injuries, sports-related concussion, exercise medicine, ultrasound-guided procedures, fracture care, and the care of athletes across the lifespan—from youth and high school competitors to collegiate, professional, adaptive, and recreational athletes. One of the greatest strengths of UCSF Fresno is our clinical environment. Located in California's Central Valley, our fellows care for an exceptionally diverse patient population with a broad spectrum of musculoskeletal and sports medicine conditions. This diversity provides outstanding clinical experience while reinforcing our mission to improve health equity and access to high-quality sports medicine care for underserved communities. Education is at the heart of our program. Fellows work alongside faculty dedicated to mentorship and individualized learning. We emphasize progressive autonomy, evidence-based medicine, and the development of teaching skills through collaboration with residents, medical students, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and other members of the sports medicine team. Our fellowship also offers event coverage experiences, allowing fellows to care for athletes in real-world settings while building confidence in sideline and venue medical management. Whether covering high school athletics, mass endurance events, or community sporting events, fellows gain the practical experience necessary for independent practice. We recognize that every fellow enters training with unique interests and career goals. Whether you envision an academic career, community practice, leadership in sports medicine, or focused expertise in ultrasound, procedural medicine, or research, we strive to provide mentorship and opportunities that help you achieve your professional aspirations. Most importantly, we foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, professionalism, and wellness. We believe outstanding physicians are developed through supportive mentorship, meaningful clinical experiences, and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Thank you for considering UCSF Fresno for your sports medicine training. We invite you to explore our program and discover how our fellowship can help prepare you for a rewarding career in primary care sports medicine. We look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Kulraj Dhah, DO, CAQSM Program Director Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship UCSF Fresno
